Learning Experiences:

Objectives

• Develop an understanding of the broad scope of veterinary medicine and its exciting future.

• Learn about basic animal anatomy, physiology, sanitation, causes of diseases and immunology.

• Gain greater understanding of their own personal health since the same medical principles apply.

• Provide exposure to important phases of medicine and public health.

Note: Veterinary Science may be carried as a project by itself or as a companion project to any other animal science project. The project is applicable to members 8to 19 years of age living in towns and cities, as well as on farms or ranches. Access to animal ownership is not required. Any species, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, birds, domestic livestock, poultry or any pet, may be used as the project animal. This program is suitable to all youth with an interest in animals, medicine or public health. Older youth, say 14 years old, or youth who have help from qualified leadership, tend to benefit more from this project. Members may need to enroll in a unit for several years to complete all the lessons.
